264MC – Shooting day

Shooting Day

As a producer there was nothing more nerve racking then the day of production. I work up and questions just started racing through my mind:

* What if my actors don’t turn up?

* What if my crew over sleep?

* What if I have forgot to book out a certain piece of equipment?

* Will production go smoothly?

* What if the cameras don’t work?

and many more questions. I simply thought I can only control the outcome of a few of them the rest were out of my hands. As a team we were also very well prepared and I knew this so i’m unsure exactly why I was panicking so much.

The day started with me going to collect the equipment from Ellen Terry with Jack and TJ. We had a big collection of cameras, glide tracks, lights, audio accessories etc. So my car was stuffed to its full capacity. We arrived back home at around 10:30 and the actors were due at 11am. I went about making some drinks and food etc. Lloyd was the first on the scene shortly followed by charley and Emma. They were all very nice and commented how professional we were considering this was a “Student” production.

After everyone settled in after a cup of tea and was dressed in character we immediately started to look at the bedroom shots. This is when the test shoots proved unbelievably useful. The lights were set up immediately and the director and cinematographer new exactly what shots to do. During practice sessions these shots took around 3-4 hours however on the actual day it literally took around 40 minutes to an hour.

After the bedroom shots we had a 30 minute break. The cast had some food and tea again while Lloyd and Charley were getting ready to leave and Emma started to get herself ready for her role. Once again these tests shots were taking around 2-3 hours and we managed to these done in one hour. The reason it took a little longer then we thought is because we had shots that involved reflections. This made things extremely tricky because they had to be timed perfectly. We also wanted to keep the “Mystery” element. This means giving the wife’s face as little screen time as possible.

In the end we got there and I would like to thank the crew:

Adam, Jack, TJ, Adnaan

I would also like to thank the cast:

Charley, Emma, Lloyd
